you have given a very insightful post Aurelia. I must congratulate you from my heart. I know, because I was a shy teenager. The self-conscious type.
I realized that each individual is different. One should not try to mould children according to some pre-conceived notions or ideals.
Many great people were shy - from politicians to actors. Two things are important here - the parents should encourage the strong points of teenagers and try to instill confidence and high self-esteem. And, more importantly, give them a goal, a dream to catch.
That I think is the best gifts the parents give, whenever they do so.
And, never ever behave as if shyness is a problem. It is not, in and of itself. I know.

We are doing this and more with our private school in FL. Parents are saving a fortune with our plans.

We knew it was also possible in other states but had not researched other states.

Aurelia, I have liked almost all of my sons friends and tried to be tolerant but watchful about those I didn't care for. I kept his contact with them on my terms in my house.

I never wanted a friend to know that I was concerned about my son's relationship with them. I just wanted to give them some love and pizza ;)
