Jacqueline = what a hard situation to be in! Cutting is such a serious matter that i would do whatever was in my power to get your 16 year old daughter the help she needs. Cutting is actually a cry out for help. Can you stress to the Stepmother and Father the importance of getting some help for her?

While she is with you I would talk to her seriously about what she is doing and the importance of her seeking help. Is there a school counselor or teacher that she can talk to?

Here is an article that we have on Teen Cutting http://parentingmyteen.com/emotional-health/teen-cutting/

I will keep you in my thoughts!

Please help me. My granddaughter (16 years old), is a beautiful, brilliant, young woman who lives in another state from me. She calls me and tells me she is feeling badly. Then she explains that what we talked about last time (suicide) is all she is feeling and that the c word she used last time (cutting herself) is what she is doing. She does not want me to tell her step mother and Dad because she is afraid they will be mad. She thinks she inconveniences them, they have to spend too much of their money on her (they live in a million dollar home) and they threw her out of her home several weeks ago, which shows they don't love her. I have spoken to her stepmother and she admits that my granddaughter isn't a bad girl. She just does the normal teen things (room uncleaned, dishes left behind, etc.). My granddaughter has always been a straight A student and is in accelerated classes. Now her school work is suffering terribly which to me is a very serious sign because she has always taken it so seriously. I have asked her stepmother to take her to a psychiatrist, but they haven't done so yet. What can I do to help her. What can I say. She is coming to stay with me for 10 days during the coming Christmas holidays. What can I do to help her. She could live with me, but she doesn't want to leave her school, etc., and go to a new one. Please help me. I love her so much, and she is such a precious person.

Thank you for listening.
