Back To School Tips For Teens – Show #35
Thanks for joining us as we celebrate the 2 year anniversary of the Parenting My Teen podcast!
We are officially in the Back To School season, with many schools starting their year in August. With this season often comes stress and anxiety for teens but there are ways to ease them back into study mode.
My guest this week is Linda Hinkle from HighSchoolStuff.com, a resource site for parents of high school students. Linda is an educator and advocate for parents of high school students. She lives in central Arkansas where she spent 29 years teaching high school mathematics. She now devotes her professional time to private tutoring and educating parents on how to help their teens be successful high school students.
Linda is also the author of an ebook A Parents Guide to Helping Your Teen Succeed in Mathematics, a practical no-nonsense guide with techniques and strategies any parent can apply.
In this episode we discuss tips for getting our teens back into the school mindset after a summer of fun as well as:
- when to meet the teachers;
- how to respond to your teen when they bring home a low grade on a test;
- tips for parents of students at each grade level; and
- how to help with homework when very often the school work goes over many parents’ heads.
Linda also has an article on her site titled, Help Your Teenager Study, which is a great free resource if you’re having trouble helping with homework.
Feel free to share with us your own preparations for high school or any challenges you face as the new school year begins. Simply leave a comment below!
